But what is the exact reason behind this “Great Resignation“, the terminology coined by Anthony C. Klotz, the Anderson Clayton Professor of Business Administration and an Associate Professor of Management at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University?

Multiple questions are coming out in this present backdrop. What is the aftermath of this sudden “ Pandemic Epiphany“? Why are the people giving their suo moto resignations? Fear of Coronavirus, inadequate emolument, unemployment benefits, the opportunity for caregiving relocation are the probable reasons behind it. Actually, they are literally fed up with the drudgery of their time-bound office duties. 40% of employees are completely burnt out. They are comprehensively exhausted. 20% of employees are leaving their job due to a lack of flexibility in their jobs and 16% of employees are quite dissatisfied with their employers due to a lack of mental, moral, and financial support.

Hats off to the ongoing pandemic. The ongoing pandemic compels people to rethink and reconfigure their work schedule in their own way. The clock-bound lives pivots around our work for ages might have frustrated them. They skipped any get-together even his own wedding anniversary due to the pressure of their own profession. They used to give their utmost priority to their work before the inception of the pandemic.

Man, the social creature has become unsocial due to the work culture of an office. They compromised and sacrificed both for their office work. But enough is enough. This ongoing pandemic has simply held up a crystal clear mirror to those above-mentioned people who are quintessentially the epitome of sincerity towards their work.

Now the time has changed. It will usher in a new era in the employment market which will change all dimensions. This will bring a new aurora in the arena of the job market which compels the employer to rethink in a different way. The people have started to think about what really matters to them. Is money everything in life? The answer is already known to them.

The pandemic coerced the people to rejig and rethink their lives in their own preferred way. They are opening the boxes where they corralled all their pent-up happiness, pleasure, and enjoyment. Many people locked their flats on rent in the city and started settling in the outskirts. They realize to spend their quality time with their friends and families in their home.

Many quit their present job and start freelancing. Many turned their latent hobbies into full-time jobs. Many started trading full-time. 106 million people are trading in cryptocurrency in 2021. Some people have decided to startup. The “ Great Resignation” has ushered in a startup boom. 1.4 million startups have registered in the US in 2021. People are quite happy with the new configuration of their neo working ambiance. 40% of people prefer their remote working environment. People are reluctant to rotate and revolve around their jobs anymore. They want to get rid of boredom and cherish ultimate freedom. They want to provide more quality time with their family. They prefer to work five-hour a day instead of ten works a day in an office. They prefer to see the face of their family members around them while working. The meaning of the definition of the job is completely changed. The job should be more flexible, remote, shorten the working days and hours both. They prefer a perfect balance between their work and their present lives.

But this transition is not at all new to the worldly people. It has been going on since time immemorial. Women opted to take the profession of soldiers and went directly to the battlefield during World War 1 ( 1914 – 1918). At that moment women for the first time stepped into the factory work. There was also a similar metamorphosis found in the configuration of the workplace during the ‘ Depression‘ in the 1930s and during the global recession during the early phase of the 21st Century. Giving proper value to life is the aftermath of every knock.

People have started to search for their new destination. 54% job search rate has increased in 2021 according to Linkedin. Hospitality and Healthcare segments in the job market encountered the highest rate of attrition. 5% of baby boomers( Born 1946 – 1964) switched their job from their existing ones in 2021. This rate is 31% for the employees who belong to Generation X ( Born 1965 – 1980). This job transition is almost 50% for the Millennials( Born 1981 – 1996) and an alarming rate of 80% of employees who belong to the ‘ Generation Z” switched their jobs in 2021.

There is an enormous vacuum created in the job market in the global sphere. 10 million employment openings are created in the US in 2021. There is a deficiency of 400000 skilled employees in the German job market.
The companies are now in monstrous trouble. They are now realizing the mistakes they have done. They are facing the new chapters due to the pinnacle of exploitation they have executed on their employees. Money does not always speak louder than pleasure.

The employers are now giving collective holidays to their employees, multiple rewards, health-policy, family-engagement policies, etc. Zalando, the famous e-com company has started to give around one week-long vacation. Some companies are offering multiple perks and privileges to their employees like ‘ Food delivery coupons‘. They are trying to win the heart of their employees and also try to dive deep inside the hearts of their employees. Better late than never. The employers are trying their level best to retain the potential talented employees and that’s why they even allow their employees to work from their own respective homes. The companies are becoming soft, flexible, lenient, and liberal too to their employees. The companies are adopting a new ‘ Hybrid Working Model’.

The office culture is abruptly changed. The time has come to rethink and reimagine from both ends. The working environment is always enriched due to the healthy symbiotic relationship between the employers and the employees. The ongoing pandemic has given that reminder to every one of us. Now it’s completely up to you to decide what you are going to do. If you like your present job, then don’t resign. It takes a second to say’ No’ but one hasty ‘ No’ can crumple your present as well your future life. So, stay tuned to your work and try to balance your life for a better future.
